Querying a novel makes you look hard at everything, especially your opening pages. They're one of the most critical pieces of your work because it's in the first few pages that you'll either hook a reader to continue or they'll lose interest and put the story down.

I've been playing around with the opening pages of mine and trying a few experiments to see how I feel about it. It's a dangerous game because it's easy to obsess over things like this and accidentally turn something good into a big mess. We'll see how my experiments go.

The image is a two-panel meme with captions. The top panel shows a man looking at a computer screen with a concerned expression, and the text reads "EXPERIMENTING". The bottom panel depicts a menacing, undead character from a film, also looking at a computer screen, with the text "OBSESSING" underneath.
A delicate balance.

In other news, I made it through the Texas DMV, which is an accomplishment all on its own. Go, me.
